Get more Amman travel tips, things to do, where to stay, and delicious food here: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/ On Day 5 of our trip to Jordan we traveled outside of Amman, first to Dana Village in the Dana Biosphere Reserve. We had an incredible local lunch, and were served a dish called muqlaba, which literally translates to upside down - it was an incredible local meal. Finally, we moved onto Petra, and after checking into our hotel, we went to Petra by Night. 00:23 Breakfast and Leaving Hotel - To begin the day, I had a quick breakfast as the hotel in Amman, and then we packed everything up and headed off to do some traveling around Jordan. Driving towards the Dana Biosphere Reserve, we took our time, stopping off at a variety of different rest stops. One of the things I grew to love immensely while traveling in Jordan was Arabic coffee, and the good news is that coffee was available at every rest stop along the highway. 1:41 Maqluba (مقلوبة‎) at Dana Biosphere - The Dana Biosphere is a nature reserve in Jordan. The reserve is home to a variety of different natural environment, and starts on a plateau and descends all the way down in the Wadi Rum valley. The views of the valley were incredible. We continued driving until we reached the Dana Village, located on a hill overlooking the valley - it’s a historic town in Jordan, and they are trying to renovate certain areas of it - it’s an amazing little village. They had set up for us to have a local Jordan food lunch at a home within the village, so after walking around for a little while, we went inside to have lunch. There’s a famous Middle Eastern, Arabic dish, that’s also very common in Jordan called muqluba (مقلوبة‎), which directly translates to upside down. The reason it’s called upside down, or flipped over, is because the dish is cooked in a big pot, with meat and spices, or in this case chicken, topped with rice all in the same pot. When the dish cooks, all the flavors start to mingle and blend to create another incredible dish. When it’s finished cooking, the pot is flipped over onto a tray, so the rice goes to the bottom, while the meat stays on top - that’s the upside down part. After the rice and chicken was flipped onto the tray, it was then topped with lots of chopped up parsley, fried peanuts, and finally some lemon slices for decoration. The dish was incredible, the r 11:08 Wadi Musa, Movenpick Hotel, Musakhan for dinner - After our incredible lunch at Dana Village, we continued driving. Along the way to Petra, we stopped at Wadi Musa, which is said to be the place where Moses struck the rock and water came out. There was a rock there, and extremely clear water was flowing out. We drove to Movenpick Hotel at Petra, and we checked in. For dinner, we ate at the Movenpick buffet restaurant, and they had a good selection of both Western and Jordanian food. The dish I was most interested in eating was the musakhan, a Jordanian and Palestinian food of bread, chicken and spices, all cooked in lots of olive oil. It was my first time to try it, and I enjoyed it - and I can only imagine how much better it would be home-cooked. 14:58 Petra By Night - Petra is the most famous attraction in all of Jordan - some people will visit Jordan with a specific purpose to visit the historical city. One company decided to set up candles in paper bags and open Petra by Night, so you can visit the main Treasury at night. Ying and I took the walk, and it was pretty cool, but it was still so dark, that honestly I couldn’t really see anything, and my camera couldn’t really pick up anything as well. Mansaf is the ultimate Jordanian food you should try: http://migrationology.com/mansaf-jordan/ Considered the national dish of Jordan, and a dish that nearly every Jordanian loves, you are bound to taste Jordan with every bite of mansaf you taste. This was my first time to ever try mansaf, and I was so happy and excited, it was incredible. What is mansaf (منسف‎)? Mansaf (منسف‎) is a Jordanian food that consists of three main things: rice, lamb, and jameed. The rice is often cooked with turmeric to give it a yellow color, and the lamb is cooked in jameed, and then more jameed is served on the side as a sauce for the rice and lamb. Finally, the lamb and rice is topped with a handful of fried nuts, either pine nuts or sliced almonds, and the full meal is then served with a variety of fresh vegetables like onions and arugula. What is jameed (جميد)? Jameed is a type of goat yoghurt that is dried and fermented and made into a hard ball shape. It’s traditionally prepared by Bedouins in the desert who preserve the goat milk by making it into jameed so that it lasts for a long time and can be used slowly. If you visit a Bedouin tent or village, you’ll often see balls of jameed resting on the roof of the tent, drying in the hot sun. For mansaf, the jameed is re-hydrated and made into a sauce, and it gives the unique signature taste and richness of the dish. I had my first taste of jameed, and it was amazing. You can really taste the goat and taste the pastures and grass and shrubs that the goats have eaten in every bite. It definitely has a bit of a meaty taste to eat. Along with mansaf being an incredibly delicious food, one of the great things about it are all the traditions and customs that come along with eating it. It’s a typical food to eat at Jordanian festivals and celebrations. The mansaf is served on a big tray, and everyone stands around the tray, taking bites with their right hand. You pick up some rice with lamb, and douse it in jameed, then roll it into a ball shape in your palm, making sure there’s some lamb in the middle of the rice and that the entire mansaf ball is held together with jameed. One you have a ball ready, you drop it into your mouth, making sure you don’t touch your lips so that you don’t contaminate your fingers - then you repeat again. Once you are finished eating, you can then lick your fingers clean, and it’s acceptable, that’s pretty cool! Tawaheen Al Tawa Restaurant - To eat mansaf in Amman, Jordan, we went to one of the most famous restaurants in the city, Tawaheen Al Tawa, a huge restaurant institution in Jordan. The restaurant serves all sorts of delicious Jordanian and Arabic foods, and they especially specialize in mansaf and bbq meats - we had the mansaf. Our tray came out, a pile of rice topped with a heap of lamb, and side bowls of jameed. The combination of the dish, and the method of eating it, made it one of the most memorable meals I ate when I was in Jordan. Price - About 10 - 15 JD ($14.06 - $21.09) per person -- Read about my experience eating mansaf at Tawaheen Al Tawa Restaurant: http://migrationology.com/mansaf-jordan/ Amman Travel Guide: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/ MY WEBSITES: Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ T-shirts & Food Guides: https://migrationology.com/store/ Resources: http://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @migrationology Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology Thank you very much for watching this Jordan food and travel video! --

Where we're just going to try lots of traditional Israeli dishes. Now Sam and I aren't very familiar with Israeli food. Like we know Hummus and Shakshouka. And baklava. So we're excited to try some new dishes and see what we like and see what we don't like. So enjoy! Jews and Muslims argue over the best hummus. He's Muslim. I think he's making a great hummus. But don't quote me. Don't quote me. How to buy hummus. So I'm going to do. I'm going to be lucky. I'm going to do the first one. Okay. So there is a few methods. We can argue on that. But basically that's what I do. Don't kill me in here. I do this. You basically do this. You just. Sorry, I'm not going to be very methodical. Mmmmm, that's good. That's how I eat it as well. It's so tasty. Happy dance at the end. So hummus taste test. I love hummus. I'm know I'm going to like this. Do you like spicy food? Big massive amounts of it. How is that? Hummus in Israel? We believe in double dipping in Israel, okay? So much flavor. Wow! Wonderful :) And you're allowed to double dip I just heard. Even better! I'm going to grab a big chunk. Some chickpeas in there. No holding back. MMMM, yeah. Isn't that good? Isn't that amazing? It's really creamy and smooth. I'm going to double dip. Breaking bread. So what are you going to be trying? We're trying Shakshouka next. It's a mixture of tomatoes, peppers and some egg. So let's have a taste. I'm not entirely sure how to do this. Just dip it! Grab some. There you go. This is hot. I'm going to burn myself. Mmmmm, how is it? That's some tomatoe-ey goodness! That's really nice. Okay, say couscous taste test. Lots of vegetables. It's really good and light. Also very flavorful as well. Looks like a pastry stuffed with cheese and some sesame seeds on top. It's super hot. Owe! You can kind of see the cheese there. Mmmmm. Oh yeah, you can. I really like the cheese. Is it salty? It is salty. I don't know if it is feta or what. Cottage cheese? Either way it's really good. Alright, so I am trying something called malabi. It's a dessert. It's sweet like a pudding but it's consistency is a bit like jello. really delicious. Really really sweet. It has a syrup and sugar on top. Yeah, it's really really sweet. With shredded coconut. Really? More dessert? This is so good. So you are having? kanafeh. It's warm. like a pudding. With sugary hairs on the outside. I don't even know how to describe it. It's just really nice. So the food tour was amazing. We got to try so many different kinds of foods. We were actually full early on but the food was just so good that we kept eating, eating and eating. And I got introduced to some new kinds of desserts that I had never tried before they were really sweet and really delicious. This is part of our Travel in Israel series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Israeli culture, Israeli arts, Israeli foods, Israeli cuisine, Jewish religion and Israeli people. Coming to Israel and participating in Taste of Israel was one of the top highlights for us in 2013. Having experienced eating hummus, shakshouka and falafel, I already knew I would love Israeli food; however, I was keen to expand the scope of food to extend to as many different Israeli dishes and Arabic food as I possibly could handle. The following is a list of some of my favorite Israeli Cuisine and Arabic Street food I had the privilege to sample while traveling in Israel. GEAR WE USE Olympus OM-D E-M5 II: http://amzn.to/1OchS7t Canon G7X: http://amzn.to/1YdjsYX Olympus 14-150mm II Lens: http://amzn.to/1Y79zeM Rode Video Mic GO: http://amzn.to/1WDKtVM Joby Gorilla Pod: http://amzn.to/1PgoY5F SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: http://amzn.to/25KEErs SOCIAL MEDIA & TRAVEL BLOGS AUDREY: blog: http://thatbackpacker.com/ instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatbackpac... facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thatbackpacker twitter: https://twitter.com/ThatBackpacker SAMUEL: blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nomadicsamuel twitter: https://twitter.com/NomadicSamuel instragram: https://www.instagram.com/nomadicsamuel/ 1) Tour of Jaffa While touring around Jaffa we had the opportunity to sample hummus, shakshouka, kanafeh, malabi and couscous just to name a few. We just kept eating and eating and eating. I thought I was going to eventually explode but in a good way ;) 2) Druze Lunch One of the top meals we had in Israel was a traditional Druze feast. Some of the standout dishes included olives, kebabs, cabbage, spiced chicken and rice. 3) Cooking class at Dan Gourmet in Tel Aviv Learning how to cook Israeli food and Arabic cuisine was an incredible experience. We had the opportunity to make tahini, sesame paste, Lahmacun, eggplant and lamb. 4) Dinner at Haifa University For dinner one evening we joined a group of University students from Haifa to whip up a communal feast. Some of the ingredients we used to make salads and mains included carrots, fresh mint, walnut and parsley. Using copious amounts of lemon, eggplant and garlic we created all of our food from scratch. One of my favorites was Tabbouleh. 5) Krembo Chocolate Pie Eating a krembo is an art form! Are you a topper? Or do you attack from the bottom? This Israeli chocolate snack is a delicious treat any time of day. More details about this incredible Amman bakery: http://migrationology.com/best-bakery-amman-jordan/ Watch all the Jordan food and travel videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipE3LSJvJao&list=PLeoy0zUu6bqmvjnL2KcRfEcg9mrno-dLT&index=1 On Day 12 in Amman, Jordan, I had one of the best fresh loaves of bread I’ve ever had, then we had a delicious final Jordanian meal before heading to the airport at night. This is the end of the Jordan travel food video series. 00:49 Salaheddin Bakery (مخبز صلاح الدين) - Salaheddin Bakery is known as being one of the oldest and best bakeries in all of Amman, and it’s especially known throughout the city for selling kaek sandwiches, a sandwich made with small loaves of bread that are covered in a layer of sesame seeds before being freshly baked. When you go to Salaheddin Bakery, everything is self service, you grab your own bread, slice it in half, and then you can proceed to add in cheese, hard baked eggs, and then season it with za’atar, a mix of thyme and spices blend for seasoning. I added in a little extra chili sauce and a sprinkle of salt, and I was good to go. The sandwich was so simple, and included just a few ingredients, but as soon as I took my first bite, I knew exactly why it was so famous and so popular: the bread. The bread was stunning. It was fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the outside, with an abundance of fragrant crispy sesame seeds on top. If you love bread, when you visit Amman, Salaheddin Bakery, is a restaurant you have to check out. When the owners of Salaheddin Bakery saw me taking photos and videos, they were extremely kind. They invited me into the kitchen to see them making the bread and firing the bread, and they started giving me snacks to try as well. Salaheddin Bakery is also a full restaurant where they serve ful medames and falafel, and they also have a desserts shop as well. The owners of the restaurant were very friendly and generous. Ying and I ended up spending about an hour just hanging out and enjoying our last day in Amman. 11:16 Rakwet Arab Cafe - For lunch, we walked over to Rakwet Arab Cafe, a restaurant that was located just a short distance from our hotel in Amman, and I had seen it from the outside and thought it looked pretty good. Inside the cafe and restaurant, it was nicely decorated with an Arabic theme. I ordered Arabic salad, tabbouleh (one of my favorite Middle Eastern dishes), the mixed grill (because I couldn’t resist one more plate of kebabs before leaving Jordan), and finally some dish made in a claypot with chicken. The claypot chicken was brought to our table, and they opened in by cracking a seal of clay. The cover came off with a puff of steam, and it smelled delicious. The chicken was moist and juicy while very fragrant. The grilled meat was also delicious. But what I really loved at Rakwet Arab Cafe was he tabbouleh which was some of the best I had during my trip to Jordan. It had a fantastic lemon juice dressing and it was stronger with garlic than other versions that I had eaten previously - something I love. Our total price for everything came to 33 JD ($46.40). 16:09 Spices - On our way back to the hotel, I stopped at a spice shop to pick up a few souvenirs to bring back to Bangkok with me - mostly that means a few bags of za’atar, the thyme herb mixture. The total price for everything I bought came to 11.50 JD ($16.17) 16:50 Dinner at La Locanda - We had a quick dinner at our hotel before heading to the airport. This wraps up this Jordan food and travel guide video series. I want to say a big thank you to the Jordan Tourism Board (http://www.visitjordan.com/) for inviting Ying and I to Jordan to experience the food, culture, and attractions. Jordan is an amazing country, I experience kindness and generosity, and lots of delicious food. Also a big thank you to Fadi (https://www.facebook.com/Jordanality/) who was our excellent guide during our trip.
